SUMMARY:Mission Possible! - Marriage Prep Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Los Gatos Islamic Center for an important workshop that will help you prepare for marriage. This workshop will help you in: \n– Getting to know yourself better\n– Learning way to get to know your potential spouse\n– Strategies for Assessing compatibility\n– Identifying advantages/disadvantages for different methods of selection\n– Understanding the optimal time for finding a spouse\n– Understanding the decision making process \nHeba ElHaddad \nHeba has received her undergraduate degree from UC Irvine in Psychology of Social Science\, later earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. She worked at OMID Multicultural Institute for Development\, a mental health institute for 3 years\, where she completed her practicum hours and gained a variety of experience working with the Muslim population from different ethnicities and backgrounds. Simultaneously\, she worked at the Anaheim Family Justice Center through New Star Family Center in Anaheim with law enforcement\, counseling victims of domestic violence and abuse. She also served as a case manager for ICNA’s first Transitional home and shelter for Muslim women in Southern California. \nHeba is an affiliate of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health Lab which focuses on providing resources for clinicians\, researchers and community leaders working with the Muslim population. Believing that prevention is superior to intervention\, Heba has worked on promoting awareness on a wide spectrum of topics ranging from anxiety to anger management through seminars\, workshops\, and lectures and through her role as a mental health instructor at Kaiser Permanente. She believes that psychoeducation has the ability to empower and transform communities\, not just individuals. Heba is part of a group of clinicians and scholars who contributed to publishing a text introducing interventions utilizing the Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy model (TIIP) to Muslim practitioners nationwide. She perceives learning to be a never-ending process and is continuously seeking to further her self-development in all aspects. \n  \nDr. Fahad Khan \nis a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences. He has also been a student of religious studies\, beginning with his memorization of Qur’an at the age of 16. He currently serves as the Deputy Director at Khalil Center\, providing psychological services while supervising clinical and research work. He also teaches undergraduate as well as graduate courses in various academic institutions. His research and writing interests include Muslim mental health and Islamic psychology. He is a fellow of the International Association of Islamic Psychology and serves as a reviewer and editor for various peer-reviewed journals in United States and Pakistan. He is actively involved in professional organizations and has served on many committees and divisions of the American Psychological Association (APA) as well as Illinois Psychological Association (IPA).
